The Walkers Gallery

This is a photo of Robbies father Rob Walker, walking past the castle looking very happy after just buying it at an auction of Robert Bailey- Neale’s estate. He was a wealthy local landowner who owned the castle when it was taken in hand by the Commissioner of Works to restore its perilous state.

The Nunney Castle is a Great Western Railway Castle Class steam locomotive and was built at the Swindon Works in 1934. It was used in many publicity photographs and was used, at the beginning of WW11 to haul trains bringing evacuated children from London to safety in the countryside. It was also used to haul the Royal Train from London to Gloucester. Many Nunney locals will remember using it to travel from Frome to Paddington in the 50’s. It has sometimes been used recently to travel from Bath to Weymouth.

Ginger Rogers was a close friend of the Walker family and stayed at Nunney Court with them…she loved visiting the castle.
